If I had a time machine

I would travel through time to see the original cast of every Broadway/West End show.

Except probably Hair. I don't really care for Hair, free love and hippie music aren't really my things.

Oh, and I would watch the revival of Company instead of the original because Raul Esparza melts my socks off.

Hell, if I have a time machine, I'll go see both the original and revival.

Here's to the ladies who lunch...

The newest additions to my consumerist lifestyle include:
  • Netflix!! (I'm on the three DVDs at a time plan, so waiting in my mailbox at home are The Office, season 1, Children of Men, and Pan's Labyrinth)
  • Company (the latest Broadway soundtrack)
  • Company (the DVD of the original Broadway cast recording the soundtrack)
  • My beautiful new couch, courtesy of Pottery Barn and my parents (that is not my living room, but it the style of my new couch, called....The Pearce couch!!)

I've also watched Raul Esparza's performance of "Being Alive" from the Tony Awards about 300 times. A-MA-ZING. I get chills every time. Click here to watch him perform.

Camp went well, the conference went well, I'm house/pet-sitting next week...not much else is happening.

[LUCY]
Peter Rabbit is this stupid book
About this stupid rabbit who steals
Vegetables from other peoples' gardens
[She counts the words so far]
Hmm. 83 to go.

[SCHROEDER]
The name of the book about which
This book report is about is
Peter Rabbit which is about this
Rabbit.
I found it very-
I liked the part where-
It was a-

It reminded me of "Robin Hood"
And the part where Little John jumped from the rock
To the Sheriff of Nottingham's back.
And then Robin and everyone swung from the trees
In a sudden surprise attack.
And they captured the sheriff and all of his goods
And they carried him back to their camp in the woods
And the sheriff was guest at their dinner and all
But he wriggled away and he sounded the call
And his men rushed in and the arrows flew-
Peter Rabbit did sort of that kind of thing too.

[LUCY]
The other people's name was Macgregor.
[counts to 23]
Ohh!

[LINUS]
In examining a book such as Peter Rabbit, it is important that
the superficial chracteristics of its deceptively simple plot
should not be allowed to blind the reader to the more substancial
fabric of its deeper motivations. In this report I plan to discuss the
sociological implications of family pressures so
great as to drive an otherwise moral rabbit to
perform acts of thievery which he consciously knew were
against the law. I also hope to explore the personlaity of Mr.
Macgregor in his comflicting roles as farmer and humanitarian.

Peter Rabbit is established from the start as a benevolent hero
and it is only...

[CHARLIE BROWN (overlapping)]
If I start writing now
When I'm not really rested
It could upset my thinking
Which is no good at all.
I'll get a fresh start tomorrow
And it's not due till Wednesday
So I'll have all of Tuesday
Unless something should happen.
Why does this always happen,
I should be outside playing
Getting fresh air and sunshine,
I work best under pressure,
And there'll be lots of pressure
If I wait till tomorrow
I should start writing now.
But I if I start writing now
When I'm nbot really rested
It could upset my thinking
Which is

And then it looked like the sheriff would win- ah!
But not for long.
Away they ran.
Just lke rabbits.

Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker...

In case you haven't noticed, I am one of those people that get obsessed with things. Songs, movies, books, I can listen/watch/read certain things over and over again. Not only is it comforting to me that some things remain the same, I just get into certain moods.

This morning after breakfast I turned my television to the Broadway songs channel. While I was doing the dishes, a song came on that reminded me of another song. I sang it to myself over and over until I was able to dry my hands, run to the computer, and look up the song. At first I thought I owned the song so I looked through my iTunes, but I couldn't find it. Turning to my old friend Google, I immediately found my song and realized where I knew it from.

"Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me."
I know it seems kind of corny, but this song is featured in one of my favorite episodes of Sex and the City. Mr. Big has decided to leave New York, and he and Carrie have a beautiful moment dancing to this song. I'm not sure why, but that moment really touches me, and I've watched the entire episode three times now. If I had any money, I would download the song and listen to it over and over.

The song manages to express exactly what I feeling at this moment. I love it when that happens.

I'm going to see Bowling for Soup tonight!! A Hangover You Don't Deserve has been our road trip cd for years, and now I get to see it live. Although, I think we will be chilling at the back this time, unlike the Blue October show. I don't need one of my friends to faint...again...and be escorted out by a med team/security...again.

And now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted...

I can't stand any of Sheryl Crow's songs (even though I own one of her cds, sorry 7th grade me), except "Begin the Beguine" on the De-Lovely soundtrack. This song has been repeating on my iPod for about three days - it's a darn good thing I don't share my office with anyone, because they probably would have killed me by now.

In other news, everyone has left me at work all by myself. This often happens on Fridays. And they wonder why I don't get anything done on Fridays! (Actually, no, no one wonders that because really, I work very hard 90% of the time.) It makes me sad to be at work by myself, I got used to working with 20-30 other staff members and 50-100 kids. I was NEVER alone at the daycare, unless I was about to leave. And then it was creepy.

Oh, and I get to go out with my girls tonight! Since I so cleverly saved $100 on my airplane ticket to Virgina, I can now do stuff! Like buy food! And alcohol! Aren't you excited for me! Bring on the expensive margaritas and cheap mixed drinks!

Whew, that was a lot of exclamation points. But seriously, kids, I have two papers due in 18 days. I know this because I set a countdown on my widgets, so it tells me EXACTLY how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds I have left. Swell. One paper is half written (in my head) and the other one is...well, not quite so far. I have a topic, though. Sort of. Actually, if you know anything at all about Milton, cognitive science, or psychology, please email me. Preferably, if you know about all three.

Thanks Internet, have a great weekend!

I seem to be completely unable to stop listening to the Spring Awakening soundtrack. I've listened to it about 6,000 times and I keep going back to the beginning. Some of my favorite songs are "The Bitch of Living," "My Junk," and "Totally Fucked." I know they sound awful but they really aren't. Good stuff. Now all I need is someone to give me a bunch of money and then I go see it on Broadway.

I am also really excited about the Blue October concert this weekend. My friend and I are going to camp out until the doors open so that we can be at the very front. No one has ever been willing to do this with me. And, my sister is going and she's never been to a Blue show before. Yay!

Did I get my tax return today?

Yes I did.

Did I place an order at Amazon.com today?

Oh hell yes I did.

In other news, I have gray, white, antique white, and deep red in my hair. No, it's not highlights, it's paint. Swell.

Because I am too tired to put together a coherent sentence that it not required by my job/school, I am stealing a page from Meg's book(blog) and will answer her questions.

Things That Get Me All In A Frenzy:

1. Five foods you can’t stop eating.

  • Is coffee a food?
  • Peanut butter crunch cereal, with lots of milk
  • New England clam chowder
  • Cheese
  • Sugar

2. Five things you have to do every day or you will GO NUTS.

  • Drink coffee
  • Checking my email seems so laaaaaame...
  • Wash my hands (I don't like feeling ichy stuff on my hands)
  • Lately, checking Bloglines
  • Have a conversation with someone that is not about work OR school

3. Five things you must have in your home (no points for bed, TV, fridge, toilet… don’t EVEN!)

  • Cheese/bread
  • My cats
  • Cheer laundry detergent - you never know when you will have a laundry emergency!
  • Those smelly things that plug into the wall
  • My cell phone

4. Five (well, seven) smells that make you happy.

  • The smell of really old books
  • Christmas (winter + cinnamon + baking + wrapping paper)
  • My mom's chocolate chip cookies baking
  • Movies (popcorn + soda + candy + staleness)
  • The smell of my cats when I bury my face in their fur
  • Coffee brewing
  • The smell of my apartment when I open all the windows and it is not too hot and not too cold.

5. Five things that get you through the day.

  • Coffee/caffeine
  • The internets
  • My iPod (especially the musical playlist)
  • Coming home to my cats
  • Feeling like I've accomplished something

Did I mention coffee?

For the past year or so I've been recording VH1's weekly music video countdown and watching it on Saturdays while I clean. It's one of my favorite parts of the weekend.

As I watched the countdown today, I have a few comments:

  • WHY oh why must everyone keep spelling out shit in their songs? Yes, you can spell (sort of). What's the point? Have we become so used to crappy lyrics that we accept THE SPELLING OF WORDS instead of an actual song?
  • I haven't ever listened to much of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but I really like their last two songs.
  • This countdown seems a little flip-flopped - Nora Jones is the toast of the music community right now, the top of all the charts I know of, and everyone is talking about her. Her video did not make the countdown. Blue October, on the other hand, has the #1 video and I rarely hear the mass media talking about them. I know which I prefer, but it just seems strange.
  • It's driving me crazy that the host is now wandering all over NYC. It just reminds me how much I want to go back there.
  • I love Fall Out Boy's new video. It's always cool when celebrities/bands/etc. make fun of themselves, and they do an excellent job in the video. Plus, it's just the kind of song that I love, very peppy.
  • Regina Spektor annoys the shit out of me.
  • Amy Lee is absolutely beautiful, and has a voice to match. She may be the poster child of the goth-girl revival, but I love her anyway.
  • The recent trend of laid-back boy group rock is ridiculous. Nickelback/Augustana/The Fray/Daughtry/Dashboard Confessional all sound the same to me, and I fast foward through all of their videos. Booooring. I left the Goo Goo Dolls out because they were one of the first cds I played when I started driving, and they will always have a special place in my heart. And don't even get me started on John Mayer/James Blunt/Daniel Powter/Mat Kearney whiny "sensitive" boys. I do also do not include Snow Patrol in either category, because I love them and they kick ass.
  • Timbaland is sexxxy, and seems almost guaranteed to make a song a hit.
  • Because I have been a Blue October fan for so long, to watch them come from the crappiest video EVER ("Calling You" - astronauts? A space ship? Bad CGI? A stupid concept AND no sign that the band members are actually a band that play instruments? Bad idea + bad execution = crappy video) to "Hate Me" and then "Into the Ocean" is wonderful. I think they did a great job with "Hate Me," especially by including Justin's mom, but I love the whole look and feel of "Into the Ocean." Literary allusions aside (Moby Dick anyone?), the costumes, the makeup, and the cinematography all work very well together, especially with Justin's stage persona.
I think that just about concludes the wrap-up of this week's show. Off to bury my nose in a book. Okay, I might eat lunch first, who knows.

I know I'm a little late with this, but I just watched the episode of Grease from last Sunday. And are you KIDDING me? 99% of these kids should feel lucky just to be breathing the same air as Andrew Lloyd Webber, and they have the nerve to fuck up their songs? Jesus. All of these kids are pushing too hard, they need to chill out. "Buenos Aires" physically hurt me - I think my face is stuck in a permanent cringe. Girlfriend did not have the voice for that song, I don't care what the judges say. And I don't remember if I've mentioned this before, but the only way I can watch reality tv is by recording it. Grease is supposed to be 2 hours long, and I watched the parts I cared about in 45 minutes.

I like lists, so you are getting another list today.

  • Overall, I had a great Valentine's Day. We drank margaritas, talked, and then Erin found out she passed her big scary test. I also got my work baby back, and although her power source had to be replaced, she still lights up my life. Everyone should be so lucky as to have a beautiful computer like mine.
  • I got Ollie a new toy yesterday that HE LOVES. He played with it for an hour and a half straight last night. Ghost took a nap.
  • Gilmore Girls was very sad this week. I cried. Lauren Graham deserves a damn Emmy already.
  • I did my taxes and am getting a little money back, so I am going to buy the following cds:
    • The Drowsy Chaperone
    • Miss Saigon
    • (my old copy is too scratched to even rip anymore)
    • Sweeney Todd
    • The Woman in White
    • Charlie Brown
    • Spamalot
  • I had better go, I am five minutes late for a meeting.

Gosh, I hope that I'm not the only person who didn't watch the superbowl. I spent the entire afternoon/evening/night at the library yesterday, and I'm going back again tonight. Stupid Milton.

In other news, I bought the Dreamgirls soundtrack, and the cast recording of Spring Awakening on iTunes today. I've been enjoying Dreamgirls all day today; I'm going to wait and listen to Spring Awakening at home before playing it here. I would rather not be jamming out with the music turned up and then have "Totally Fucked" come on. Or even "The Bitch of Living." I made the mistake of playing Avenue Q at work once, and although I remembered to skip "The Internet is for Porn" I completely forgot about "You Can Be As Loud As the Hell You Want." Whoops. Not to mention last week when I played "Salt and Pepper."

I've been trying very hard not to whine here, but I am going to whine. You have been warned.

I had disgusting coffee this morning with the grounds still in it, my head hurts, I am sleepy, and I have too much stuff to do that I don't want to do.

No more whining, you may return to your regularly scheduled lives.

P.S. I forgot when I posted yesterday that most people in the world have not heard of David LaMotte, so here is his website. You should definitely check him out - he makes the best, most soothing, most genuine music I've ever heard. Similar to watching/reading Little Women, listening to his music makes me believe there is good in the world again. And we all need that.

I refuse to turn the heat on.

I am wearing socks, slippers, sweatpants, a t-shirt, a long sleeved t-shirt, and a hat.

I look damn sexy.

I am warming myself up by dancing to "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers. This is now my official "Dancing To Warm Myself Up" song. JKR peeps, you know what I'm talking about. I love this song!

P.S. Lest you think I am abusive, the cats are fast asleep on the electric blanket, which is on high. In fact, they are on top of pillows, on top of the electric blanket, on top of the comforter, on top of the mattress pad, on top of the mattress. Seriously?

While watching Scrubs on a chilly November evening...

You know when you drive home from work on a Friday at 5pm and you get in the lane that misses all the traffic and even though you are stopped by a train you just turn up The Killers even louder and look at the sky through the open sun roof?

Yeah. That's a good feeling.

And also? The Killers rock.
